OMMICA Celebrates 2024 Performance Milestones, Sets Goals for 2025

Written by Abby Davey

Despite uncertainty surrounding the UK’s energy market, Scottish chemical analysis expert OMMICA has unveiled a 10% increase in sales in 2024 – amounting to a total exceeding £300,000.

Celebrating its 5th anniversary as an independent firm in November, the team behind OMMICA have shared details on a number of key successes experienced this year, including breakthroughs in new markets and regions.

The sales increase stems from OMMICA’s ability to deliver its in-house chemical testing methodology via portable testing kits to operators and intermediaries worldwide. These kits, which test the chemical levels of methanol, monoethylene glycol (MEG), and tetrakis (hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate (THPS) in oil, condensate, and water samples, are proven to save organisations time and money while optimising production and ensuring environmental compliance.

In the last 12 months, OMMICA has attributed part of its success to new global developments including a significant deal in Central Asia, and five-figure deals in Saudi Arabia, Guyana, Norway, and East Africa. These new markets have enabled the integration of OMMICA’s methodology within local energy projects, highlighting growing recognition of the effective solutions and technologies the company provides.

The international success of OMMICA is part of its globalisation strategy in efforts to redistribute resources away from the UK’s energy market. In a 3-year period, OMMICA’s sales have shifted from being 70% UK-based to over 60% coming from outside the country. As an independent SME based in Edinburgh, OMMICA has prioritised the global market following concerns over the future of the UK sector – a move seen even more justifiable following the Labour government’s Autumn budget.

The success experienced this year follows consistent growth in year-on-year sales since2020 with a 31% total in increase in this timeframe.

OMMICA anticipates that 2024’s success will continue into the new year as the SME reaches new milestones via further expansion in Asia, strengthening its position supporting Guyana’s oil and gas market, and new partnerships within Africa to distribute its test kits. Additionally, the success experienced will allow OMMICA to continue striving for innovation through its product portfolio and resources at its disposal. This year, OMMICA obtained new equipment to optimise the processing of oil testing from its Edinburgh laboratory, while its management team are hopeful of targeting team expansion to support the increase in output.

Reflecting on the last five years and this year’s results, Business Development Manager Duncan Baillie commented: “In the five years since OMMICA went independent, we have overcome several challenges on our path to becoming a market leader. The success we achieved this year is a direct result of that journey and the work put in to drive innovation within chemical analysis testing.

Thanks to every project success, and further adoption of our THPS Testing Kits, launched two years ago, we are now witnessing the positive, and well-earned, results. 2024 has continued our upwards trajectory experienced over the last two years, and we’re excited to use the platform provided by this success to invest in our technologies further and explore new opportunities to service operators and help optimise global energy security. We look forward to 2025 and the many projects we have on the horizon.”
