EnOcean has launched the STM 600 sensor transceiver, a programmable module for wireless sensors designed to operate without batteries by using energy harvesting. The German company, which is based in Oberhaching, Bavaria, announced the launch in Munich on 4 November 2026.
According to EnOcean, the STM 600 combines greater processing power and application memory with improved radio performance and support for the latest EnOcean Alliance security specifications. The company describes it as a platform for more advanced sensor products built on its technology.
More processing power in a smaller footprint
The STM 600 provides substantially more processing power and application memory than previous generations, the company said. This is intended to allow more sophisticated sensor functionality and to leave headroom for increasingly complex application requirements.
Despite the higher performance, the transceiver requires less circuit board space than earlier generations. EnOcean said that, like its TCM 615, the STM 600’s compact size suits applications with tight space constraints.
“The STM 600 combines the performance, flexibility and security required for the next generation of energy-harvesting sensors. Its increased computing resources enable manufacturers to develop differentiated applications. At the same time, the new transceiver maintains a compact design and the low energy consumption essential for battery-free operation,” said Matthias Kassner, Vice President Product Marketing at EnOcean.
Security built into the STM 600 sensor transceiver
Security is a central feature of the new module. Dedicated hardware acceleration supports secure wireless communication and firmware updates in line with the latest EnOcean Alliance security standards.
EnOcean said the combination of processing power, built-in security and low energy use allows developers to create robust sensor products that can adapt to future requirements without sacrificing efficiency.
Higher transmit power and lower energy use
The company said the STM 600 offers higher transmit power while reducing the energy consumed during both transmission and reception. For battery-free devices, which depend on small amounts of harvested energy, the energy required for each transmission is a key design constraint.
“With the STM 600 we deliver higher transmit power while significantly reducing energy consumption during both transmission and reception. This combination improves communication reliability and extends radio range while minimizing the energy required to transmit sensor data. It enables the development of compact, energy-harvesting sensors designed for reliable, maintenance-free operation without batteries”, said Kassner.
Applications from occupancy to air quality
Because the STM 600 is programmable, manufacturers can integrate application-specific functionality with EnOcean wireless technology. The company said it supports a broad range of sensor applications, including occupancy, air quality, energy consumption, temperature, humidity, light level and contact status.
“With the STM 600, we are expanding the possibilities for energy-harvesting sensors. Its combination of higher performance, integrated security, extended range, and lower energy consumption provides a strong foundation for innovative sensor designs. At the same time, it reinforces our commitment to secure, sustainable wireless connectivity across the EnOcean Alliance ecosystem”, Kassner said.
EnOcean’s role in building automation
EnOcean supplies battery-free IoT hardware, software and cloud connectivity for buildings, using self-powered sensors to capture occupancy and environmental data. The company says its products are used in building automation, smart homes, LED lighting control and industrial applications, as well as in logistics and aviation.
