Anaergia to supply anaerobic digestion technology for Vanguard Renewables RNG project

anaerobic digestion technology for renewable natural gas facility with large biogas tanks and industrial processing infrastructure in rural landscape
  • Anaergia secures C$8 million contract with Vanguard Renewables
  • Deployment of anaerobic digestion technology in Minnesota
  • Facility will convert food, beverage and agricultural waste into renewable natural gas (RNG)
  • Marks fourth collaboration between the two companies
  • Highlights continued growth of waste-to-energy and circular economy infrastructure

The agreement, valued at approximately C$8 million, will see Anaergia Technologies LLC deliver an integrated platform for processing organic waste streams into renewable natural gas (RNG) for injection into the local energy network.

The project marks the fourth deployment of Anaergia’s systems with Vanguard Renewables, reflecting continued collaboration as both companies scale waste-to-energy infrastructure.

Anaerobic digestion technology for renewable natural gas expansion

The anaerobic digestion technology for renewable natural gas deployed at the Minnesota facility will process food, beverage, and agricultural waste, converting it into biogas that can be upgraded into pipeline-quality RNG.

The system includes Anaergia’s proprietary process technologies, permanent synchronous magnet (PSM) mixers, and its Biogas Upgrading (BUG™) system. These components are designed to optimise the efficiency of organic waste conversion while supporting consistent gas output.

John Goodwin, Vice President of Engineering at Vanguard Renewables, said the integration of advanced technologies is central to improving performance and reliability across next-generation anaerobic digestion facilities.

Anaergia Chief Executive Officer Assaf Onn noted that repeat deployments reflect the scalability of integrated systems designed to convert organic waste into energy while supporting agricultural and energy infrastructure.

Waste-to-energy systems supporting circular economy goals

The anaerobic digestion technology for renewable natural gas sector is increasingly positioned as a key component of circular economy strategies, particularly in managing organic waste and reducing methane emissions from landfill.

By diverting organic material from disposal and converting it into usable energy, such facilities contribute to greenhouse gas reduction while providing a domestic source of renewable fuel.

Vanguard Renewables operates anaerobic digestion sites across multiple regions in the United States, focusing on integrating waste management with energy production. The company’s model supports farms and industrial partners by processing organic waste streams that would otherwise generate emissions.

Anaergia, which develops and deploys technologies for resource recovery, combines solid waste processing, wastewater treatment, and biomethane production within a single platform. This integrated approach reflects broader industry trends toward maximising value from waste streams.
