Business Stream, a UK water retailer, has renewed its partnership with climate action platform Ecologi to support international projects addressing carbon emissions, biodiversity loss and community resilience. For 2024/25, Business Stream is investing in two initiatives: a fuel-efficient cookstove programme in Uganda and a peatland restoration project in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. The contribution is the equivalent of the company’s scope one, two and three carbon footprint for the year – 123.5 tonnes CO2e – and forms part of its commitment to reach net zero by 2030.Chief Executive of Business Stream, Jo Dow, said:

Since launching our vision six years ago, we’ve remained committed to taking meaningful action that delivers positive and lasting change. Our partnership with Ecologi allows us to support certified nature and community projects while we continue to roll out our carbon reduction programme.

The Ugandan initiative distributes locally designed and manufactured cookstoves that reduce charcoal consumption by up to 55%. This helps cut emissions, ease pressure on forests, improve indoor air quality, and reduce household fuel costs. The project also supports women and children who are disproportionately affected by traditional cooking methods.

In Indonesia, the peatland project focuses on rewetting, revegetation and fire prevention in one of the world’s most carbon-dense ecosystems. Verified under the VCS and CCB standards, the work enhances biodiversity, prevents further emissions and supports sustainable livelihoods for nearby communities.

Sean Earp, Head of Strategic Climate Partnerships at Ecologi, said:

We’re delighted to continue our partnership with Business Stream, supporting high-integrity projects that deliver measurable climate, nature, and community impact. From restoring carbon-rich peatlands to distributing fuel-efficient cookstoves, these initiatives contribute directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals while building resilience for people and ecosystems.

Ecologi, a certified B Corp, works with more than 24,000 businesses globally, including over 300 B Corps, to help fund carbon reduction and restoration projects. Its community has supported the planting of 90 million trees, avoided or removed 3.4 million tonnes of CO2, and conserved or restored over six million square metres of habitat.
