Octopus Energy has acquired Kuppa, a London-based home energy software startup, to expand its digital capabilities and speed up low-carbon home retrofits. The move will allow customers to assess their property’s potential for upgrades such as solar panels, heat pumps, and batteries in seconds — without the need for a physical survey.
Kuppa’s AI-driven technology uses satellite imagery, smart meter data, and public databases to create bespoke home energy designs virtually. The platform has already supported more than 250,000 households in identifying tailored energy solutions to cut bills and carbon footprints.
AI-powered home decarbonisation
By integrating Kuppa’s software into Octopus’s tech stack, the company plans to halve the time it takes for customers to move from initial enquiry to completed installation. The system will help optimise design and installation processes for solar, battery, and heat pump systems, making home electrification faster and more affordable.
Ashley Firth, Head of Technology at Octopus Energy, said: “We’ve been remarkably impressed with Kuppa’s team, tech and know-how. To unlock 100% smart green homes of the future, we need to blend operational data with cutting-edge software — and this partnership achieves exactly that.”
Scaling sustainable homes
Kuppa’s Co-Founder and CEO, Kirsty Kenney, added: “We built Kuppa to make it easier for every household to understand and improve their home’s energy performance. Joining Octopus means we can bring that vision to millions more homes, faster than ever before.”
The acquisition strengthens Octopus Energy’s growing portfolio of clean technology solutions, following recent innovations in smart tariffs, heat pumps, and electric vehicle integration. It supports the UK’s broader net-zero goals by enabling more homeowners to adopt efficient, low-carbon technologies through digital tools.
