London-based e-bike operator Forest has announced a new partnership with Octopus Energy, under which the energy supplier will provide electricity for Forest’s fleet of electric bikes operating across the capital.
From December, Octopus Energy will supply electricity for Forest’s 20,000 e-bikes, which are deployed throughout London for short urban journeys. The agreement covers the electricity used to charge the bikes, as well as supporting operational requirements associated with the fleet.
Both companies said the partnership reflects a shared focus on reducing emissions associated with urban transport, as local authorities and transport providers seek to lower reliance on fossil-fuelled journeys within cities.
Electric bikes are increasingly being adopted as an alternative to private car use for short trips. According to data released by Forest, riders using its e-bike service have collectively travelled more than 47 million kilometres, contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions compared with conventional vehicle journeys.
Forest has stated that the partnership will support its longer-term sustainability targets, including its ambition to reach net-zero operations by 2030.
Commenting on the announcement, Agustin Guilisasti, Founder and CEO of Forest, said sustainability has been a central consideration in the company’s operational model since its launch.
Greg Jackson, Founder and CEO of Octopus Energy, said the collaboration reflects the growing role of electric mobility in reducing emissions from everyday travel in cities.
The partnership comes amid continued growth in the use of micromobility solutions across the UK, as policymakers and businesses explore ways to decarbonise transport while maintaining affordability and accessibility for urban residents.
