Tata Motors and Volvo Group partner to advance sustainable heavy transport in India

Written by Abby Davey

Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles and the Volvo Group have signed a new collaboration under the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) to accelerate the decarbonisation of India’s heavy transport sector.

The agreement aims to establish a comprehensive, sustainable transport ecosystem, including cleaner vehicle technologies, green fuels, advanced logistics, and driver training initiatives. The partnership aligns with India’s national goals to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and supports the global transition toward low-carbon industrial freight.

Both companies will explore opportunities in electrification, hydrogen fuel cells, and renewable fuel infrastructure, while promoting supply chain decarbonisation and circular manufacturing practices. The collaboration builds on decades of engineering expertise and shared ambitions to drive down emissions in one of the world’s fastest-growing logistics markets.

Representatives from Tata Motors and Volvo said the partnership demonstrates how cross-sector cooperation can deliver scalable, sustainable solutions for heavy transport. It also supports the broader mission of LeadIT, which brings governments and companies together to develop climate-resilient industry pathways.
