Coral Vita’s BrainCoral recognised among TIME’s Best Inventions of 2025

Written by Abby Davey
Coral Vita’s proprietary software and hardware platform, BrainCoral, has been named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2025. The award highlights BrainCoral as a transformative technology enabling large-scale, data-driven coral restoration at a time when reefs face critical ecological decline.Developed by the Bahamas-based reef restoration company, BrainCoral combines artificial intelligence, underwater navigation, and digital-twin technology to automate and accelerate coral-farming processes that have traditionally relied on manual observation and paper-based tracking.

Sam Teicher, Co-founder and Chief Reef Officer at Coral Vita, said: “Half of the world’s coral reefs have already been lost, and over ninety percent could disappear by 2050. BrainCoral addresses a critical bottleneck in marine conservation by transforming coral restoration from manual craft into scalable science.”

AI-powered coral restoration

BrainCoral’s integrated system includes:

    • AI-powered monitoring using PhotoBooth technology and machine learning to automate coral growth measurements and deliver daily analytics.
    • Underwater GPS navigation that guides divers with precision and supports targeted restoration work.
    • Digital-twin tracking of every coral’s genetics, performance, and environmental history, automatically generating work schedules and reports.
