Brewing up savings: Caffè Nero becomes Octopus Energy’s biggest business customer

Premium coffee house, Caffè Nero has become Octopus Energy’s biggest business customer, sourcing 100% green electricity to brew coffee with the power of the breeze and sunshine.

The independent family-owned coffee group is switching more than 630 stores in the UK to Octopus’ innovative ‘Electric Match’ tariff to make the most of affordable green energy. This includes hundreds of Caffè Nero stores and its Roastery, as well as stores in the UK from the other brands in The Caffè Nero Group, Harris+Hoole and Coffee#1.

The Caffè Nero Group’s energy will be sourced from three British solar and wind farms in Yorkshire, Wales and Lincolnshire, which are managed by Octopus Energy’s generation arm.

Enabled by Octopus’s cutting-edge tech platform Kraken, this smart tariff unleashes significant savings. With half-hourly price updates, Caffè Nero will get a transparent and real-time cost of energy, often below wholesale prices.

By tapping into abundant wind and solar power when it is cheapest, Caffè Nero can shift its energy usage to these optimal times, maximising savings. Octopus estimates that its ‘Electric Match’ tariff could slash Caffè Nero’s annual electricity bills in the UK by up to 17%.

This direct link to British green energy sites will also help Caffè Nero improve its Scope 2 reporting through a traceable and time-matched green energy supply.

The strategic partnership between Octopus and Caffè Nero began earlier this year, with the aim of promoting a more sustainable future for customers and employees.

This latest news builds on the perks Octopus Energy customers already enjoy, such as a complimentary drink at Caffè Nero stores through the ‘Octoplus’ rewards scheme.
