Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has become a partner of Electric Vehicles UK (EVUK), an industry-to-consumer organisation focused on improving public understanding of electric vehicles and supporting the UK’s transition to zero-emission transport.

The partnership brings together a vehicle manufacturer and a consumer-focused organisation at a time when misinformation and uncertainty continue to influence electric vehicle adoption across the UK.

Addressing misinformation and consumer confidence

Founded in 2024, Electric Vehicles UK aims to provide clear, evidence-based information about electric mobility to consumers, the media and policymakers. The organisation campaigns to reduce barriers to adoption by challenging common misconceptions around electric vehicle ownership, costs and performance.

Through the partnership, BYD will support EVUK’s work by contributing to public engagement activities and coordinated communications on electric vehicles, while EVUK retains its independent, fact-based approach.

Industry engagement in the EV transition

BYD is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of new energy vehicles, including battery electric and plug-in hybrid models, and has expanded its presence in the UK market in recent years.

The collaboration reflects a broader trend of manufacturers engaging more directly in public-facing education and policy discussions as the UK seeks to accelerate the shift away from petrol and diesel vehicles.

Improving consumer confidence is widely seen as a critical factor in achieving the government’s transport decarbonisation targets, alongside charging infrastructure rollout and affordability.

Supporting informed decision-making

Commenting on the partnership, BYD UK country manager Bono Ge said the company supports efforts to provide accurate and accessible information about electric vehicles, particularly as more drivers consider switching from internal combustion engines.

Electric Vehicles UK chief executive Tanya Sinclair said the partnership would strengthen EVUK’s ability to engage with stakeholders and promote informed discussion around electric mobility.

As the UK moves towards an all-electric new car market later this decade, initiatives focused on transparency and public understanding are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping consumer uptake.
